Helen King
My college career began in my late thirties culminating with obtaining my BA and MA in Anthropology. My focus was Native American Studies, in particular the Wind River Shoshone. Field work was done in Vernal, Utah, studying and recording Petroglyphs (rock art).I have two grown children, Christine, and Johnie, and one granddaughter, Cerie, who is now 17.
All of these facets of my life are grist for my poetry and other writings.

The Story Behind My Site
I have been encouraged by numerous friends to share the stories I tell about myself, both as a child and as an adult. These stories are often humerous and almost always have a point to make, as is true with any storyteller's tales. My escapades as a military brat, however, are not typical childhood tales, often revealing danger which I was not aware of at the time, but always telling of cultural difference, both in understanding and behavior. I grew up running the back alleys of London, Paris, and Izmir (Turkey) in the post-WW II era, a dangerous time for a white girl child by any standards, but didn't let that stop me in my adventures.

Dedication
This web site is dedicated to many people. First my father, who was a great storyteller and cowboy poet. Second, my mother, who wanted us to learn to understand other peoples and their ways and beliefs, and never to judge anyone just for being different. My brothers, James and Frank, the first a most gentle and kind soul, the second a fierce and outspoken storyteller and poet in his own right. Friends know in foreign parts whose names I no longer remember, and college mates who encouraged my storytelling and writing skills are also remembered fondly. My Shoshone friends, who walk their own Medicine Path, have guided me in understanding both their path and my own. And all my Celtic, Sumerian and CLANS friends who wish me well in my quest. My prayers include all of these, my friends.
