MY FRIEND
Light encircles
Heaven's delicate beauty
Strength of an old tree -
An old friend
Waiting for me
To be old enough
To understand
Our future
In the seed we plant today
And planted yesterday
To tend as a shepherd
Our fledgling flock
Protecting
Instructing
Investing in the future
Ours and theirs
I walk on the grass because
The HARD pavement
Hurts my feet
I love this old tree
With it's crook here for me
Whispers -
Peace -
Eternity
In my ears,
sighs through the leaves
I drift to heaven.
Who am I becoming
This old tree knows
But she ain't telling.

  STORM'S HANDMAIDEN
I weathered the storm last night
In the heart of this old tree
Unborn again - reunited
One with the divine
One heart betwixt two
Lightening’s wand
Swaying gently - rocking me
Storms’s handmaiden
Gently reasuring me
Old wisdom has deep roots
You will be safe here,
As always.

TOAD REALITY

Star fire flashes
Illuminate my mind
Tantalize my senses.
The gentlist of intimacies
Pervades my soul.
This tender penetration
A suplicant’s gift.
My prince, come
Tickle my fancy
Come dance with me
Through time.
Become a toad,
Real within the myth
Within my mind.
  MESQUITE
Mesquite, what a sore missed sight
Feather soft against the wind
Live oak laid low to the ground
So many grasses, so many greens
Christmas trees growing
Wild in a ditch, graceful magnolias
Line the streets in front of
Picturesque old homes
Young boys practice on the
Football field, while horses seek
Shade on a hot Texas summer afternoon
Tourists seek refuge for the night
Or push to make the last few miles
That lead them home, past oil fields
Rest parks, and bailed alfalfa fields
Or fallow, full of stubble
Awaiting spring planting
A pale half-moon rides the evening sky
And windmills still their daily toil
Apple, peach and pear trees
Beckon the bees for one last drink
Before evening drops her skirts
And night enfolds us
In her blanket of stars.

Moondrops

A veil of moon drops
Flowed across the sky
To my roof
I stood behind
A waterfall
Perched upon
My balcony

The shimmering
Shivering
Razors edge of time

Cascading
Liquid crystal
God's tears
Washed away
The day's weariness
From my soul

Reborn
In a burst of
Light(ning)
Within and without

The vestle
Consumed
By the flame

Reborn
In a shower
Of moon drops.
  LAS VEGAS BLUES
Las Vegas Blues?
You don’t even have a clue.
I lost a love for every
Honeysuckle sunset endured there

Two a.m. feedings, in stereo
And the monster grew,
And the monster hit me.
You don’t even have a clue

Would I have stilled your life
If I had had a clue?
No, for a foolish mother
Eternally hopes
That you will get a clue

To the beauty and the pain
In those honeysuckle sunsets.

LIKE HER

Like her I stretch
Up and down
Within, beyond
Below, and above
Near and far
To see, feel, hear
Smell touch and taste
The world around me

And yet
Bound though she be
To the earth
She knows much more
Than this ignorant
Footloose wanderer

For constancy
Is a better teacher
Than wandering
Will ever be
